Amount of Energy Produced from Solar Energy in China Increased by 23%

Taking important steps towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions and being carbon neutral, China has increased the amount of energy it produces from solar energy by 23%.

According to data released by Wang Dapeng, director of China’s National Energy Administration, the country’s electricity production from solar energy in the January-June period was 157.64 billion kilowatt-hours. Wang said that in the same period, the newly added installed photovoltaic electricity generation capacity was 13 million kilowatts, and the total installed photovoltaic electricity generation capacity reached 268 million kilowatts at the end of June.

China announced in June that it would achieve grid parity by ending the subsidies given from the central budget for new central photovoltaic stations, distributed photovoltaic projects and onshore wind energy projects in 2021. According to China’s National Development and Reform Commission, the policies enacted from 01 August 2021 aim to promote efficient use of resources and develop high-quality new energy sectors such as solar and wind power.
