Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has released two separate reports addressing the post-pandemic and the future of 5G.

The 20th edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report (EMR), which includes local data highlighting trends in different markets, was recently published. Ericsson predicts that the number of 5G subscribers will increase by about one million every day, and the total number of subscribers will exceed 580 million by the end of 2021. This foresight in the latest report reinforces the expectation that 5G will be the fastest adopted mobile generation ever. Compared to 4G, 5G is expected to reach the same milestone 2 years earlier and exceed 1 billion subscribers.

Alongside the latest issue of the Ericsson Mobility Report, the Global Telecom Market Report (GTM) report titled “The Future of Urban Reality” by Ericsson ConsumerLab, which assesses the penetration of 5G and its enormous potential in markets around the world, has been published.

This report by Ericsson ConsumerLab, Ericsson’s largest consumer survey to date, reveals the basic views of consumers in Turkey on what will happen after the pandemic by 2025, through a survey of 1,000 to 2,000 people aged 15-79 years.

The report reveals that as consumers enter the “next normal”, by 2025, 2 new online services will be added to their daily online activities and 9 hours more time will be devoted to online activities than before the pandemic. Underlining that mid-level online users have started to use more services in their daily lives during the pandemic process, the report states that the gap between intermediate and advanced users will be closed with this change in online activities in the coming period.

According to the Ericsson Report, 48 percent of Turkey is expected to study and work remotely in the near future.

Due to COVID-19, online education in schools and universities in Turkey increased by 90%, while remote working increased by 45%. Distance education and work is expected to remain at 48% in the future.

Ericsson Turkey General Manager Isil Yalcin commented on the findings of the reports at the press conference held online with journalists: “Our research shows that the number of 5G subscribers will be approximately 580 million by the end of 2021 and that 5G networks will carry more than half of the world’s mobile data traffic by 2026. While 5G has become the symbol of fast communication., we saw how important connection speed is during the pandemic process. This further emphasized the value that 5G will offer to consumers and businesses. While digital transformation has gained great importance during the pandemic process, there have been significant changes in customer habits. Consumers expect to further expand their digital habits by 2025. Considering this, it is necessary to place digital inclusion at the top of the agenda to build stronger societies of the future, which is why Ericsson has focused its research and development on 5G and beyond technologies intensively. We continue to operate consistently and work very closely with operators to keep up with the pace of digital transformation demands.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in the way consumers prioritize. The research shows that 57 percent of consumers in Turkey will turn to e-learning and online training programs to get a diploma or improve their skills by 2025. In addition, 53 percent of consumers believe that shopping online will be a better experience than going to the physical store. One of the most important changes in this process is the prioritization of local shopping: Half of consumers say they will generally prefer local products in 2025, partly due to environmental concerns, and think this will become the norm in the future. By 2025, 58 percent of consumers in Turkey think they will only buy locally produced food and products.
