Kategori : NATURAL GAS ENERGY NEWS, ENERGY AGENDA NEWS - Tarih : 29 June 2021

Cengiz Energy signed an agreement for the second natural gas fired combined cycle power plant in Uzbekistan. Cengiz Energy’s electricity generation capacity in this country will reach 460 megawatts in 2022, with the power plant to be established on an area of 70,000 square meters in Sirdaryo, Uzbekistan and will produce 220 megawatts of energy per hour.

Cengiz Energy, a subsidiary of Cengiz Holding, which operates in the fields of electricity generation, electricity distribution, trade, sales and marketing, and natural gas distribution and trade in the energy sector, signed an agreement for the second natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant to be built in Uzbekistan. At the Uzbekistan-Turkey Business Forum; With the ‘Investment Agreement’ signed with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the ‘Electricity Purchase Agreement’ signed with the Uzbekistan National Electricity Grids, Cengiz Energy; It will build a 220 megawatt power plant in Sirdaryo. With the ongoing project in Tashkent, Cengiz Energy’s electricity generation capacity in Uzbekistan will increase to 460 megawatts. Vice President Fuat Oktay and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov also attended the signing ceremony.

Cengiz Holding Energy Group President Ahmet Cengiz stated that after the natural gas fired combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 240 megawatts in Tashkent, they reached an agreement for the second facility with a production capacity of 220 megawatts in Sirdaryo, “We will produce a total of 460 megawatts of electricity per hour in both power plants. This corresponds to the electricity consumed by approximately 230 thousand households. Uzbekistan provides great facilities to new investors in the field of energy and is not a market that has reached saturation yet compared to Turkey. That’s why we want to be in this country in the future as well,” he said. Expressing that they will work on the build-operate model in both power plants, Cengiz continued: “Uzbekistan is a country with large natural gas resources. On the other hand, the efficiency of the power plants that continue production despite being outdated and having completed their economic life is very low. Important studies are being carried out in the country to use natural gas resources more efficiently, to prevent power cuts and to make energy supply more stable. As a part of this, we will start generating electricity at our first power plant within the next year. Our facility, established on an area of 50 thousand square meters in Tashkent, will come into operation in March 2022. We also plan to complete the installation of the new facility, which will be located on an area of 70,000 square meters in Sirdaryo, in the second half of next year.”

200 TURKS WILL WORK IN THE PROJECT

A total of 1,000 people will work during the installation phase of the projects in two cities of Uzbekistan. Turkish engineers will create 200 of them. When the projects are put into use, the employment figure in the enterprise will be around 200 people for the two projects. 20% of these employees will also consist of Turkish engineers. Cengiz Energy will produce electricity for 25 years with the build-operate model in two facilities.
