Renewable Energy Production Record Breaks in India in May

Kategori : ELECTRICITY ENERGY NEWS, ENERGY AGENDA NEWS, SOLAR ENERGY NEWS - Tarih : 18 June 2022

Record production in green energy, despite 23.5% growth in electricity demand, reduced India’s dependence on coal in May, reducing its utilities increased coal stocks.

While increasing supply from renewable resources has led to an extraordinarily rapid increase in demand, forcing the country to reopen mines and revert to importing fuel, while India has made progress towards easing the coal shortage, the share of renewable energy resources in energy production decreased to 10.2% in April and May. While it increased to 14.1%, the share of coal decreased from 76.8% to 72.4%.

While the share in coal was still above 70.9% in May 2021, wind energy, which started in May and decreased in August, produced 51.1% higher production in May compared to a year ago. While the data show that solar energy production increased by 37.8%, the generation from renewable sources increased by 44.1% compared to the previous year, reaching the highest rate of the last 30 months.
