TUGIAD President Çelikel’s request for a 6-month extension of the YEKDEM process of renewable energy investors, whose investment efforts were hampered by the pandemic, received full support at the Global Warming Convention.
Support for renewable energy was discussed at the Global Warming Congress, which was organized for the 15th time this year by the Association of Economic Journalists (EGD).
Nilüfer Çevikel, President of the Young Businessmen Association of Turkey (TÜGİAD), had recently expressed the extension of the support process with the investments made within the scope of the Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism (YEKDEM) due to the pandemic:
“We’re talking about the green deal these days. We are expressing the problem of import-based energy costs. This causes the current account deficit to grow. In order to get rid of the current account deficit and to switch to green transformation, it would be the right decision to extend the duration of the projects of renewable energy investors for 6 months due to the pandemic.”
These views of President Çelikel came to the fore at the Global Warming Congress organized by EGD. The main focus of the debate on the green deal was support for renewable energy. It was emphasized that the extension of time in support of renewable energy is important.
Evaluating these views at the Global Warming Congress, Çelikel reiterated these views:
“It is meaningful that the views we express are expressed at the Global Warming Congress, where renewable energy is supported. Our Minister of Treasury and Finance was in Bursa today. We conveyed the issue to him. We tell everyone about the subject in Ankara. They say they have already extended us 6 months. Okay, but the pandemic has extended. Therefore, the extension of the YEKDEM deadline until the end of December will pave the way for investments in renewable energy. Thus, we will spend less money on energy imports.”
