The Global Electricity Industry Review report by Ember analyzed electricity data from 63 countries representing 87% of electricity demand. As the world recovered from the negative effects of the global new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic last year, the report compared the first 6 months of 2021 with the same period of 2019 to reveal how the clean energy transformation took place.

Emissions originating from the electricity sector on a global scale started to increase again after the record decline seen last year as a result of the measures taken to prevent the epidemic. In addition, harmful emissions from the electricity sector increased by 5% in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2019.

Global electricity demand increased by 5% compared to the pre-epidemic level in the first 6 months of this year, and 43% of this growth was met by coal power plants, which contributed to the increase in emissions. 57% of the increase in electricity demand came from wind and solar.

The Share of Wind and Solar in Production in Turkey 13%

In Turkey, while the share of wind and sun in total electricity production increased to 13% in the first half of this year, although there was an increase of 1% in electricity generation from coal, emissions from electricity generation were the first of this year due to the decrease in electricity production from hydroelectric power plants due to drought and natural gas replacing hydroelectricity. increased by 19% in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period of 2019.
