Kategori : ELECTRICITY ENERGY NEWS, ENERGY AGENDA NEWS - Tarih : 24 November 2021

Rolls-Royce’s all-electric aircraft “Spirit of Innovation” made history as the fastest electric aircraft in the world by breaking 3 new world records. Having successfully completed the record attempt, the aircraft successfully broke the current record of 213.04 km/h, reaching a maximum speed of 555.9 km/h at 3 kilometers at 18:45 on 16 November 2021, Turkey time.

In subsequent trials at the UK Ministry of Defense’s Boscombe Down experimental aircraft test site, the aircraft achieved a speed of 532.1 km/h (330 mph) over 15 kilometers, breaking the record for the fastest time to reach 3000 meters in 60 seconds, 292.8 km/h faster than the previous record. also succeeded. On the other hand, it achieved a maximum speed of 623 km/h as part of the record attempt.

“Spirit of Innovation” also became the world’s fastest all-electric aircraft.

These records, which were broken as a result of hard work, were officially confirmed by the World Air Sports Federation (FAI), which supervises and approves world aviation and space records.

Rolls-Royce announced that it has made this record possible by working with aerospace energy storage specialist Electroflight and automotive powertrain supplier YASA. It was stated that it also provides important data for power and propulsion systems. As an example, the features that “air taxis” expect from batteries are very similar to those developed for “Spirit of Innovation”.

Phill O’Dell, who is the person who has experienced this record most closely, said about his success, “It was very important for me to break the world record that will lead to all-electric flight. This achievement we have achieved is not only the most interesting event of my career, but also an extraordinary achievement for the whole team. The opportunity to be at the forefront of this unique story of Rolls-Royce, which seeks to shape the future of aviation and be a pioneer in this field, was beyond my dreams.” said.

Rolls-Royce’s ACCEL project is just one way to make aviation more sustainable. The company announced its targets to net zero carbon emissions a year after participating in the “UN Race to Zero” campaign in June. In this context, Rolls-Royce has announced that it is committed to ensuring that its new products are compatible with net zero activities by 2030 and that all products are compatible with net zero by 2050.
