It predicts that increasing energy consumption in data centers where the data is collected, processed and evaluated can be reduced with Edge computing technology. Schneider Electric, which topped the Corporate Knights Global Sustainability Index in 2021 as the world’s leader in sustainability, supports the digital transformation of countries and institutions in energy efficiency. The company also produces solutions to reduce energy consumption by reflecting technological developments on its products and services.

According to a study by Gartner, it is predicted that 50% of corporate data will be created and processed outside of the traditional data center or cloud by 2022. When compared to 2019, this means an increase of 10%. According to the results of the research, by 2025, 75% of enterprise computing, processing and storage processes are thought to be migrated to edge applications such as modular or micro data centers.

Global internet traffic doubles

In a hybrid IT world, IT infrastructure can be moved wherever an organization needs it, whether it’s an endpoint on a distributed network such as a regional office, or a single staff member working from home. Global internet traffic increased by 40% between last February and April, while workplaces switched to an online working order as much as possible within the scope of Covid-19 restrictions.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), with the number of mobile internet users increasing from 3.8 billion to five billion and Internet of Things (IoT) connections doubling to 25 billion by 2025, global internet traffic will double to 4 per year by 2022. It can reach 2 zetabytes (4.2 trillion gigabytes). If nothing changes, the pressure on data services and infrastructure – particularly power and cooling – will increase accordingly.

Also, newer applications, from video analytics to Big Data, require a lot of bandwidth. This means more resources need to be applied locally and processed within Edge for real-time business intelligence and responsiveness.

Energy savings in data center air conditioning

Edge computing architecture; It provides an efficient platform for IoT devices powering advanced analytics, augmented reality, and ultimately autonomous applications that benefit from complete AI. Temperature sensors alerting operators of changing conditions in a data center or server room, such as in the application of machinery, storage systems, and production resources that can perform complex tasks, exchange information, and give instructions to each other without much human intervention, Edge’s Industry 4.0 a is just one example of how it powers the transition.

Edge also supports 5G technology

Edge also offers significant support during the transition to 5G. Traffic management of an autonomous smart city can be improved by real-time data analysis through Internet of Things applications. According to the New World Economic Forum / PwC analysis, 5G-enabled uses in the healthcare sector alone have the potential to increase global GDP by $530 billion by 2030.

The fact that the Edge is green by design is a significant advantage, as investment and sustainability planning is done right from the start. This maximizes the resulting resources and opportunities. Naturally, companies and customers are targeting cost-saving technological innovations that will move them to net zero.
