‘FIPRESCI’ Award from 46th Toronto Film Festival to ‘Anatolian Leopard’

“Anatolian Leopard”, the first feature film written and directed by Emre Kayiş, had its world premiere in the Discovery section of the 46th Toronto International Film Festival. The film, starring Uğur Polat and İpek Türktan, was awarded the FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) Award at the festival! The film, which is preparing to make its Turkey premiere in the National Feature Film Competition of the 58th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, is about the struggle of a zoo manager to prevent the institution’s privatization.

“Anatolian Leopard”, the first feature film written and directed by Emre Kayiş, who draws attention with the series “Alef”, of which he is the creator and screenwriter, was included in the Discovery selection of the 46th Toronto International Film Festival, held between 10-18 September 2021. World premiere at the festival The film returned from Toronto with the FIPRESCI Award.

Tansu Biçer, Ege Aydan, Seyithan Özdemir, Osman Alkaş and Nuri Gökaşan are also in the cast of “Anatolian Leopard” starring Uğur Polat and İpek Türktan.

Fikret (Uğur Polat), who has been the director of the oldest zoo in the country for 22 years, lives alone. It has been on the agenda for a long time that the zoo is closed and sold to the Arabs and an amusement park is built on its land. What prevents this trend, which Fikret is against, is that an old Anatolian leopard, which is under protection because it is on the verge of extinction, is still alive. It is not possible for the closure process to begin before the leopard moves to another zoo. Fikret struggles against this change with his introverted assistant (İpek Türktan). Emre Kayiş wrote the script and sat in the director’s chair; Departing from the sad fate of the endangered old leopard, it reveals the emotional world of people who are in a fateful union with him.

Olena Yershova Yıldız is the producer of “Anatolian Leopard”, a co-production between Turkey, Denmark, Germany and Poland, while Kanat Doğramacı (Asteros Film) is the co-producer in Turkey. T.R. The film, which received support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and BluTV, as well as various institutions in Germany, Poland and Denmark, was also awarded the main prize at the Jerusalem International Film Lab during its production.
