In partnership with the industrial gases firm Linde and E.ON subsidiary Avacon, the company has<strong></strong> commissioned a green hydrogen plant powered by wind energy.</p>
<p><strong>Hydrogen</strong> will replace the <strong>carbon necessary</strong> for <strong>smelting iron ore.</strong></p>
<p>Avacon operates seven newly built wind turbines with an output totalling <strong>30MW</strong> on the site while the steel company has installed 2 Siemens <strong>1.25MW</strong> electrolysers, which will generate around <strong>450 cubic</strong> metres of hydrogen per hour.</p>

<p>That’s according to a new report by the <strong>Hydrogen Council</strong> and <strong>McKinsey &amp; Company</strong>, which suggests almost <strong>228 large-scale projects</strong> in more than<strong> 30</strong> countries have already been announced. The analysis estimates <strong>85%</strong> of these projects are located in <strong>Europe, Asia</strong> and <strong>Australia.</strong></p>

<p>US presidential candidate <strong>Joe Biden’s</strong> climate plan calls for a research program to produce a clean form of the gas that’s cheap enough to fuel power plants within a decade. Likewise, <strong>Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand</strong>, and the <strong>European Union</strong> have all published hydrogen roadmaps that rely on it to accelerate greenhouse gas reductions in the power, transportation, or <strong></strong>industrial sectors.</p>
