Türkiye could increase its GDP by as much as US$8 billion per year, create more than 300,000 new jobs by 2030, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent compared to the 2019 level – all by investing in renewable energy rather than continuing to rely on fossil fuels. These are the findings of a joint analysis released today in Ankara by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Investing in wind and solar power to satisfy future energy needs would thus yield not only environmental benefits but also strong economic ones, in terms of growth, job creation and the trade balance.

A transition towards a low-carbon economy is forecast to boost output and employment growth in the EU thanks to a spur in investment in clean energy, according to a new report released on Tuesday. An analysis run by Cambridge Econometrics and EU agency Eurofound’s European jobs monitor calculated that the EU28 GDP would be 1.1 per cent higher by 2030 in case of the Paris Climate agreement was implemented compared to the baseline scenario.

The number of jobs would be boosted by 0.5 per cent over the same period.
