Türkiye’s largest conglomerate, Koc Holding, has signed an agreement with Romania-based Waldevar Energy for a major solar power plant project, Romanian sources reported.

The project will be built in the town of Niculesti near Bucharest and is expected to add at least 200 megawatts-peak (MWp) of capacity, according to news outlet profit.ro.

The planned facility follows Koc Holding’s subsidiary Entek Elektrik’s acquisition of two Romanian companies that hold the required development rights for the project in early 2025, involving Eco Sun Niculesti and Euromec-Ciocanari, both previously owned by U.K.-based Econergy International Limited.

The Commission has launched discussions with the two Cypriot communities in Cyprus about the results of an EU-funded pre-feasibility study concerning the possible establishment of the first-ever bi-communal solar power plant in Cyprus.

Discussions were officially launched with a meeting with the representatives of both Cypriot communities, chaired by Mario Nava, Director-General for Structural Reform Support at the European Commission.

The pre-feasibility study, funded under the EU aid programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, envisages a solar power plant of 36MW capacity located in the buffer zone, using photovoltaics and batteries with a storage capacity of 3 hours.

Turkey’s internationally active solar energy company ASUNIM, with its 6 offices worldwide and international experience exceeding 1 GW, has obtained a license for the 9MWn GES developed by Genese Natural, its subsidiary in Portugal.

Thanks to the financial and technical competence it provides, ASUNIM has been awarded the 3rd SPP license from the Portuguese Ministry of Energy; with Genese Natural, which is owned and headquartered in Portugal together with the 17MWn Paderne and 30MWn Palmela projects in Portugal, it was also entitled to obtain the licenses.

Italian oil and gas major Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) said today it has initiated construction work on two solar projects in Pakistan and Tunisia with respective power generation capacities of 10 MWp and 5 MWp.

Eni noted that both projects will support upstream operations by delivering green energy with an off-grid set up.

In Pakistan, the company is building а photovoltaic (PV) plant in close proximity to the Bhit gas field of which Eni New Energy Pakistan is the operator with a 40% stake.

Thailand plans to build the world’s largest floating solar farms to power Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy and to boost the country’s share of clean energy.

State-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand will float 16 solar farms with a combined capacity of more than 2.7 gigawatts in nine of its hydroelectric dam reservoirs by 2037, said Thepparat Theppitak, a deputy governor with the utility. Several of the proposed projects are more than double the size of the world’s largest floating system now and the venture dwarfs the 1.3 gigawatts of generation installed globally as of October.

France plans to double its renewable energy capacity with a system of regular tenders under a draft 10-year energy strategy plan published on Friday.
