Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Solargiga Energy in China recently published the results of research in which they saw improved thermal stability of perovskite solar cells and their efficiency increasing from 17% to 20%. This was achieved by applying caffeine on the perovskite layer.</p>
<p>The idea began as a joke over morning coffee, the researchers said in an interview. “One day, as we were discussing perovskite solar cells, our colleague Rui Wang said: &#8216;If we need coffee to boost our energy then what about perovskites?</p>

However, the majority of solar photoelectrochemical cells cannot drive the overall photosynthesis reactions without the assistance of an external power source. </strong></p>
<p>A device for simultaneous and direct production of renewable fuels and electrical power from sunlight is now proposed. This hybrid photoelectrochemical and photovoltaic device allows tunable control over the branching ratio between two high-value products of solar energy conversion, requires relatively simple modification to existing photovoltaic technologies, and circumvents the photocurrent mismatches that lead to significant loss in tandem photoelectrochemical systems comprising chemically stable photoelectrodes.</p>
