The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan announced that it is planned to raise the renewable energy targets for 2030, and new tenders will be held in wind and solar energy.

In its statement on 06 August 2021, the Ministry will increase the solar energy installed power target set by the country for 2030 from 5 to 7 GW, and its wind target will be 5 GW. While the current installed power of Uzbekistan is currently at the level of 12.9 GW, thermal power plants account for 11 GW of this power, and HEPPs for 1.85 GW, while the largest share in energy production is 90%.

Renewable energy, led by solar power, could make up 80% of the growth in electricity generation over the next decade, according to a report published Tuesday.

The International Energy Agency said it is now consistently cheaper to generate electricity by capturing the sun’s energy than by burning coal or natural gas in most countries.

Solar photovoltaic cells are now one of the cheapest sources of electricity in history thanks to maturing technologies and policies that have reduced the cost of investments, the Paris-based agency said.

China has become the center of gravity for global energy markets. While energy demand growth has slowed or stopped in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, China’s primary energy demand increased by more than 45% over the last decade. Going forward, the question is whether such growth will continue and how China’s energy system will change in response to the dual challenges of climate change and local pollution.

China is highly dependent on fossil fuel imports.
