The pandemic may finally be receding, but remote working is very much here to stay. The model that appears to be gaining most traction is a hybrid one, where most staff are allowed to spend some time working from home (WFH), but will also be required to come to the office for at least part of the week. It’s intended as a “best of both worlds” solution for staff and employers. But as we’ve seen over the past 12 months or more, mass remote working has also created the perfect conditions for threat actors to thrive.

The report, compiled from the analysis of data from Cisco Umbrella, found that the biggest threats faced by various industries such as Manufacturing, Healthcare, Technology, Finance, Higher Education and Management in 2020 are phishing, trojan horse attacks, cryptocurrency mining and ransomware.

Taking advantage of the disruptions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, cybercriminals are targeting companies and organizations in different industries with increasingly sophisticated malware attacks. Some of these are based on deceiving the user, while others steal important information by installing malicious programs on computers.
