The 260MW Impact Solar project in Texas from Lightsource bp. Image: Lightsource bp. Solar developer Lightsource bp has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with fast food giant McDonald’s for a 145MWac/180MWdc PV project in Louisiana.

McDonald’s will offtake the entirety of the power produced at the Prairie Ronde solar project, which is expected to generate around 327,000MWh annually.

This is the second deal between McDonald’s and Lightsource bp in Louisiana, the first being a PPA signed for a 345MWdc Baton Rouge solar project.

BP’s joint solar venture, Lightsource BP, will more than double its global expansion by 2025 after clinching a financing deal worth $1.8bn (£1.3bn) to develop enough solar farms to power the equivalent of 8.4m homes.

The fast-growing operation had initially set a target to develop arrays of panels with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts by 2023, enough for almost 3.4m homes, but the fresh funds will be used to turbocharge its ambition to 25GW by 2025.

Lightsource bp company will invest in solar energy in Spain, and in the statement, the organization made an agreement to purchase 703 megawatts (MW) solar projects located in Northern Spain.

Post-acquisition Lightsource bp’s energy assets in Spain will reach 3 gigawatts (GW) in 2 years, accounting for about 15% of its planned projects globally.
