The European Union on Wednesday pledged to increase financial support to help poorer countries fight climate change and adapt to its impacts, and called on the United States also to step up.

“We will now propose an additional 4 billion euros for climate finance until 2027,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a policy speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

According to a new analysis from the findings of the International Institute for Sustainable Development, 12 percent of the public finance provided by the G20 and Multilateral Development Banks for natural gas projects in developing countries between 2017-19 was released by Urgevald in October, from the World Bank. World leaders need to come up with much more than “hot air” at the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November if the planet is to have any chance of cooling down, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday.

COP26, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, is important as it could accelerate measures by the world’s biggest polluters to tackle the climate change which activists, scientists and world leaders say could ultimately endanger the planet.
