<p>Rystad Energy research shows that although global battery demand in <strong>2021</strong> stood at<strong> 580 gigawatt-hours</strong> (GWh), more than double <strong>2020’s</strong> total, global supply was still able to keep up. However, that is set to change in the coming years as the appetite for <strong>battery technologies</strong> in <strong>passenger vehicles</strong> and <strong>stationary storage</strong> <strong>grows significantly</strong>, straining the supply chain.</p>

<p>Dutch Royal Dutch Shell and Australian renewable energy company Edify Energy have signed a 10-year energy supply contract with the Australian State of New South Wales. The contract envisages installing a 100MW energy storage system called the Riverina Energy Storage System (RESS) near Edify Energy&#8217;s 333MW Darlington Point solar power plant in Riverina.</p>

We can learn from Britain’s current struggles that unless or until we drastically improve our alternative energy and electricity storage technology, we are not yet able to engage in a meaning transition.</p>
<p><strong>On November 3rd</strong>, National Grid, which operates the electrical system in the United Kingdom, <strong>issued</strong> an “electricity margin notice,” for the afternoon of November 4.</p>

Northvolt and Norsk Hydro are teaming up to recycle batteries from Norway’s hundreds of thousands of electric cars as part of Europe’s effort to build a green battery industry to take on Tesla and Asian rivals. The Swedish battery manufacturer — which last year raised more than €1bn from the likes of Volkswagen, Goldman Sachs and Ikea — and the Norwegian aluminium company will open a NKr100m ($10m) recycling hub in the south-eastern Norwegian town of Frederikstad next year.</p>

<p>The total <strong>energy storage market</strong> is expected to grow to <strong>$546 billion</strong> in annual revenue <strong>by 2035</strong>, up from just <strong>$59 billion</strong> in 2019, according to a report released by <strong>Lux Research</strong>.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, <strong>the stationary storage market</strong> will surpass the electronic devices market as early as 2023, when it is projected to become a <strong>$30 billion</strong> industry of <strong>52 GWh</strong> in installations.</p>
