Yapı Kredi became the first institution to commit to the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” to the Science Based Target Initiative.

The emission reduction targets to be determined by Yapı Kredi will be publicly announced after verification by the international initiative, the Science-Based Targets Initiative. Thus, the bank, which will play an important role in the fight against climate change, will contribute to the environment in line with the targets of the Paris Agreement, which limits the increase in global warming to below 2°C, ideally to 1.5°C.

The year-end oil price forecast by the American investment bank JP Morgan was reduced by $5 per barrel.

In the report prepared by JP Morgan, the crude oil price forecast for the end of 2021 was reduced from $83/barrel to $78/barrel.

In addition, the 3rd quarter forecast for global oil demand was reduced by 1 million barrels per day.

Global carbon dioxide emissions stopped growing in 2019, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has claimed in a new report.

According to the report released today, global CO2 emissions held at around 33 gigatonnes (Gt) last year, following two years of increases. The authors attribute the apparent good news to the expansion of renewable wind and solar energy sources, nations switching from coal to natural gas energy generation, and additional nuclear power output.

The European Union today unveiled a strategy to get its contribution to global climate change down to zero in just 30 years. The EU would be the first major economy to reach such a milestone.

However, the proposal faces several hurdles as it makes its way toward a vote by the EU’s parliament and national governments, and critics have accused the European Commission, the EU’s executive branch which devised the proposal, of pulling its punches to placate lower-ambition European countries.
