More than 20,000 business leaders from around the world and sustainability leaders including representatives from the United Nations, governments, civil society and academia met at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit to build a better future after the global pandemic. Global Compact Turkey took part in the global session where diversity and inclusion practices in the business world were discussed and the regional session where good examples of SDG innovation were shared. In the session titled Business Plastics Initiative: Going Beyond Commitments, moderated by Global Compact Turkey Environment Working Group Co-chairman Ebru Tüzecan, with the participation of Anadolu Efes CEO Can Caka, Kibar Holding CEO Haluk Kayabasi and Vestel Group Companies CEO Turan Erdogan.

The widening rift between the world’s two largest economies – the United States and China – has had analysts and market observers using the phrase ‘Cold War’ to describe how far the two global superpowers could go in their increasingly heated dispute. A new Iron Curtain could mean attempts to decouple the intertwined economic and trade relations between the biggest economies in the world, market analyst John Kemp argues.

Such decoupling, however, will take decades and may not be even possible, considering the intertwined global supply chains, including in the energy markets.

Nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history — and the rate of species extinctions is accelerating, with grave impacts on people around the world now likely, warns a landmark new report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the summary of which was approved at the 7th session of the IPBES Plenary, meeting last week (29 April – 4 May) in Paris.
