Following a two-year research project, the partners of the HYPOS alliance plan to build the storage and operate it for research purposes.<\/h1>\n<p>\u201cThe facility would be continental Europe\u2019s first hydrogen cavern storage, and the world\u2019s first cavern <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-92512\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/alman-konsorsiyum-hidrojeni-tuz-deposunda-depolayacak-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/alman-konsorsiyum-hidrojeni-tuz-deposunda-depolayacak-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/alman-konsorsiyum-hidrojeni-tuz-deposunda-depolayacak-500x295.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/alman-konsorsiyum-hidrojeni-tuz-deposunda-depolayacak-80x47.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/alman-konsorsiyum-hidrojeni-tuz-deposunda-depolayacak.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>storage for green hydrogen made with renewables,\u201d according to a\u00a0press release. \u201cWe can store green hydrogen made with surplus power from renewable generation in the cavern, and discharge it when needed,\u201d explained project manager Stefan Bergander. \u201cThis gives us a large seasonal storage system that offers \u2013 in combination with power-to-gas \u2013 a unique possibility at this scale to avoid bottlenecks in the supply with intermittent renewable energies, and therefore guarantee supply security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HYPOS stands for Hydrogen Power Storage &amp; Solutions East Germany and is a network of more than 100 partners. The aim\u00a0of the project, which receives support from Germany\u2019s research and science ministry, is to\u00a0produce, store, distribute\u00a0and widely use\u00a0green hydrogen in the chemicals, refinery, mobility and energy supply sectors, according\u00a0to its website.\u00a0Central Germany is a preferred region for early implementation of innovative hydrogen use due to the already existing infrastructure (pipeline and storage caverns)\u00a0and various medium-sized enterprises located in the area.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A German consortium has launched a research platform to store renewable hydrogen in a salt cavern.
