LFP has some advantage and disadvantages when compared to the traditional nickel cobalt aluminum (NCA) or nickel, manganese, cobalt (NMC) batteries typically used to power electric cars.<\/h1>\n<p>The advantages include not using <strong>nickel<\/strong> or<strong> cobalt<\/strong>, both of which are going up in <strong>price<\/strong> as the demand for <strong>electric cars accelerates<\/strong>. In addition, <strong>mining cobalt<\/strong> has <strong>significant environmental<\/strong> and <strong>humanitarian issues<\/strong>. Leaving those elements <strong>out helps lower<\/strong> the cost of <strong>manufacturing <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-135362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/tesla-dan-megapack-kurulumlarina-yonelik-lfp-batarya-hucrelerine-gecis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/tesla-dan-megapack-kurulumlarina-yonelik-lfp-batarya-hucrelerine-gecis.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/tesla-dan-megapack-kurulumlarina-yonelik-lfp-batarya-hucrelerine-gecis-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/tesla-dan-megapack-kurulumlarina-yonelik-lfp-batarya-hucrelerine-gecis-500x303.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/tesla-dan-megapack-kurulumlarina-yonelik-lfp-batarya-hucrelerine-gecis-80x48.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>battery cells.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The downside is that <strong>LFP batteries<\/strong> are <strong>less energy<\/strong> dense than<strong> traditional battery cells<\/strong>, which is why they are a perfect fit for the entry level <strong>Tesla Model 3 Standard Range +<\/strong> in<strong> China<\/strong> but not for the mighty<strong> Model S P100D<\/strong> with <strong>Plaid+ Mode<\/strong>. The change in<strong> battery chemistry<\/strong> was alluded to by <strong>Elon Musk<\/strong> in the most recent conference call with investors. <em>\u201cHowever, <strong>stationary storage, the energy density<\/strong> is not as important because it\u2019s just staying on the ground, and so I think <strong>the vast majority of stationary storage<\/strong> will be <strong>iron-based lithium-ion cells<\/strong> with an <strong>iron phosphate cathode<\/strong>, technically. But the <strong>phosphate part<\/strong> is unnecessary. It\u2019s really just the <strong>iron<\/strong> or<strong> nickel.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Each Megapack<\/strong> has a maximum energy capacity of <strong>3 MWh<\/strong>, making it one of the <strong>largest energy<\/strong> storage systems on the market. With its shipping container size enclosure, it can be installed quickly and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2020\/04\/01\/hawaiian-electric-plans-nearly-1-gigawatt-hour-of-battery-storage-mostly-from-tesla-megapacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">scaled easily to meet the needs of\u00a0 individual customers<\/a><\/strong>.
