There were 10m\u00a0electric cars on the world\u2019s roads at the end of 2020, following a decade \"\"of rapid growth.<\/h1>\n

Electric car registrations<\/strong> increased by 41%<\/strong> in 2020, despite the pandemic-related worldwide downturn in car sales in which global car sales dropped 6%.<\/strong> Around 3m<\/strong>\u00a0electric cars were sold globally<\/strong> (a 4.6% sales share), and Europe<\/strong> overtook the People\u2019s Republic of China<\/strong> (\u201cChina\u201d) as the world\u2019s largest electric vehicle (EV) market<\/strong> for the first time.<\/p>\n

Electric bus<\/strong> and truck registrations<\/strong> also expanded in major markets, reaching global stocks of 600\u00a0000<\/strong> and 31\u00a0000<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n
