The company laid out three key areas it will focus on via a<strong> $2B investment<\/strong>: <strong>vehicle electrification, sustainable energy<\/strong>, and <strong>carbon sequestration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-131180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fedex-2040-a-kadar-karbon-notr-olacagini-acikladi-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fedex-2040-a-kadar-karbon-notr-olacagini-acikladi-2.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fedex-2040-a-kadar-karbon-notr-olacagini-acikladi-2-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fedex-2040-a-kadar-karbon-notr-olacagini-acikladi-2-500x324.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/fedex-2040-a-kadar-karbon-notr-olacagini-acikladi-2-77x50.jpg 77w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>This includes a pledge of <strong>$100 million<\/strong> to <strong>Yale University<\/strong> to help establish<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.yale.edu\/2021\/03\/03\/yale-new-fedex-supported-center-focus-climate-change-solutions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\">the\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture<\/a><\/strong>, which will be focused on developing natural solutions for reducing atmospheric carbon.<\/p>\n<p>Key\u00a0steps\u00a0toward reaching\u00a0the FedEx <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">carbon neutral goal\u00a0include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vehicle\u00a0Electrification:\u00a0By 2040<\/strong>,\u00a0the entire FedEx\u00a0parcel\u00a0pickup and delivery (PUD)\u00a0fleet will be\u00a0zero-emission\u00a0electric vehicles. This will be accomplished through phased programs to replace existing vehicles. For example, by <strong>2025<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>50%<\/strong> of FedEx Express global\u00a0PUD\u00a0vehicle purchases will be\u00a0electric, rising to <strong>100%\u00a0<\/strong>of all purchases\u00a0by<strong> 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuel Conservation and\u00a0Aircraft\u00a0Modernization:<\/strong>\u00a0FedEx will build on initiatives designed to reduce fuel consumption in\u00a0its\u00a0aircraft. Since 2012,\u00a0the\u00a0FedEx Fuel Sense and\u00a0Aircraft\u00a0Modernization programs have saved a combined 1.43 billion gallons of jet fuel and avoided over <strong>13.5 million<\/strong> metric tons of\u00a0<strong>carbon dioxide (CO2)\u00a0emissions<\/strong>, it said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facilities:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>FedEx<\/strong> will continue efforts to invest in <strong>efficiency<\/strong> and<strong> renewables<\/strong> at its more than 5000 facilities worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natural Carbon Sequestration:<\/strong>\u00a0FedEx\u00a0funding will\u00a0help to\u00a0establish\u00a0the <strong>Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture<\/strong> to\u00a0support applied research into<strong>\u00a0natural carbon sequestration solutions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition, the company said it will work with customers to help them <strong>decarbonize their supply chains<\/strong> and that it will invest in alternative fuels for its aircraft and vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yale Center researchers<\/strong> will <strong>develop methods<\/strong> that build on<strong> natural carbon storage systems<\/strong>, including biological ecosystems and <strong>the geological carbon cycle, improving, where possible<\/strong>, how quickly <strong>carbon can be absorbed<\/strong>, how much can be <strong>contained<\/strong>,\u00a0and how long it can be <strong>stored.<\/strong> Through these efforts, Yale scientists aim to create a portfolio of <strong>carbon removal strategies<\/strong> that have impacts on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renewableenergyworld.com\/energy-efficiency\/fedex-says-it-will-be-carbon-neutral-by-2040\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Reneweable Energy World<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Company is going all-electric and funding a new Yale center for applied research focused on carbon-negative technologies.
