The European offshore wind sector attracted over 26 billion euros (around $31.7 billion) of investment last year, a record amount, according to the latest figures from industry \"\"body WindEurope.<\/h1>\n

In an announcement Monday<\/strong>, the Brussels-based organization<\/strong> said the cash raised will finance<\/strong> a total of 7.1 gigawatts (GW)<\/strong> of offshore wind capacity,<\/strong> with projects set to be developed and built over the next few years<\/strong>. Capacity refers to the maximum amount<\/strong> that installations can produce, not necessarily what they are currently generating.<\/p>\n

Europe\u2019s offshore wind capacity<\/strong> now stands at a little over 25 GW<\/strong>, with 42%<\/strong> of this located in U.K. waters. Long term, the European Union<\/strong>, which the U.K.<\/strong> left in January 2020<\/strong>,\u00a0is targeting 300 GW of offshore wind by the middle of this century.<\/strong>\u00a0U.K. authorities want their offshore wind<\/strong> capacity to hit\u00a040 GW by the year 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n
