An aggressive push towards 100% renewable energy would save Americans as much as $321bn in energy costs, while also slashing planet-heating emissions, according to a new report.<\/h1>\n

Joe Biden<\/strong>, the Democratic presidential nominee<\/strong>, has vowed to eliminate greenhouse gases<\/strong> from the US power grid<\/strong> within 15 years<\/strong> and essentially zero out emissions<\/strong> by 2050<\/strong>, a plan assailed by Donald Trump<\/strong> as costly and detrimental to the American economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"But a\u00a0new analysis by Rewiring America<\/strong>, an energy policy organization<\/strong>, finds that households<\/strong> would benefit financially from a complete switch to clean energy sources such as solar and wind. More than 40%<\/strong> of energy emissions<\/strong> are determined by appliances in and around the home, according to the report, such as heating, electricity, refrigeration<\/strong> and car use<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Should all of these related factors be fully electrified<\/strong> and sourced from clean energy<\/strong>, households<\/strong> could save as much as $321bn<\/strong> in energy costs<\/strong>, the report finds, or up to $2,500<\/strong> a household a year. Households would be faced with the upfront costs of installing solar panels<\/strong> and electric devices<\/strong> such as stovetops and heat pumps, but Rewiring America<\/strong> says strong government assistance<\/strong> for renewables would help deliver long-term<\/strong> savings.<\/p>\n
