{"id":117002,"date":"2020-07-15T13:09:54","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T10:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/?p=117002"},"modified":"2020-07-15T13:18:04","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T10:18:04","slug":"ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/en\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Hydrogen Use For Decarbonisation Focus on Energy Efficiency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h1>The European Commission on Wednesday unveiled a strategy to scale up renewable hydrogen projects across polluting sectors from chemicals to steel and push for clean fuels and energy efficiency to meet the EU\u2019s net-zero emissions goal by 2050.<\/h1>\n<p><strong>European industry<\/strong> and <strong>refineries<\/strong> already use around<strong> 8 million<\/strong> tonnes of <strong>hydrogen<\/strong> each year, but most of this is<strong> \u201cgrey\u201d hydrogen<\/strong>, a version made from <strong>natural gas<\/strong> in a process that produces <strong>planet-warming emissions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EU\u2019s priority<\/strong> is to develop<strong> \u201cgreen\u201d hydrogen<\/strong> and largely deploy it for sectors<strong> hard to decarbonise<\/strong> or <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-117004\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak-500x307.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ab-sifir-karbon-icin-yesil-hidrojen-ile-enerji-verimliligi-ne-odaklanacak-80x50.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 340px) 100vw, 340px\" \/>where <strong>electrification<\/strong> is <strong>difficult or impossible<\/strong> from <strong>2030 to 2050<\/strong>. But it recognized the need for a phased, gradual approach where a halfway house of <strong>\u201cblue hydrogen\u201d<\/strong> will play a role.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong>2020<\/strong> to <strong>2024<\/strong>, hydrogen electrolysers installations of at least <strong>6 gigawatts<\/strong> of renewable would be set up in the <strong>EU<\/strong>, with the production of up to one million tonnes of<strong> renewable hydrogen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the second phase, at least<strong> 40 gigawatts<\/strong> of <strong>renewable hydrogen electrolysers<\/strong> would be installed and up to ten million tonnes of <strong>renewable hydrogen<\/strong> would be produced in the EU, from <strong>2025 to 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cumulative investments in renewable hydrogen in Europe could reach between <strong>180 billion<\/strong> and <strong>470 billion euros<\/strong> by <strong>2050<\/strong>, and between <strong>3 billion<\/strong> and <strong>18 billion euros<\/strong> for <strong>low-carbon fossil-based<\/strong> hydrogen, the bloc\u2019s executive said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext to being an <strong>alternative fuel<\/strong> and<strong> energy carrier, hydrogen<\/strong> can become an<strong> important low-carbon building block<\/strong> for the<strong> chemical industry\u2019s<\/strong> production processes,\u201d said <strong>Marco Mensik<\/strong>, director general of of the chemical industry association Cefic.<\/p>\n<p>The EU also said<strong> energy efficiency<\/strong> will be a priority, along with a greater use of <strong>electricity<\/strong> where possible and promoting <strong>clean fuels<\/strong>, including<strong> renewable hydrogen<\/strong> and<strong> sustainable biofuels<\/strong> and <strong>biogas<\/strong>.
