According to Iberdrola, it has over<strong> 1.4 million<\/strong> solar panels and will be able to supply energy to <strong>250,000 people<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-111901\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/avrupanin-en-buyuk-gunes-santrali-elektrik-uretimine-geciyor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/avrupanin-en-buyuk-gunes-santrali-elektrik-uretimine-geciyor.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/avrupanin-en-buyuk-gunes-santrali-elektrik-uretimine-geciyor-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/avrupanin-en-buyuk-gunes-santrali-elektrik-uretimine-geciyor-500x307.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.enerjigazetesi.ist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/avrupanin-en-buyuk-gunes-santrali-elektrik-uretimine-geciyor-80x50.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>per year.<\/p>\n<p>The plant is a collaboration between<strong> Iberdrola and Ecoenerg\u00edas del Guadiana<\/strong> and construction work on the project finished in December last year.<strong>\u00a0Photovoltaic refers<\/strong> to a way of directly converting light from the sun into electricity.<\/p>\n<p>While the commissioning of <strong>N\u00fa\u00f1ez de Balboa<\/strong> is an undoubted positive, the <strong>solar industry<\/strong>, like many in the renewable energy sector, is facing up to difficulties caused by <strong>COVID-19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, research and consultancy firm <strong>Wood Mackenzie<\/strong> said <strong>global solar installations<\/strong> for 2020 had been revised down from <strong>129.5 gigawatts (GW)<\/strong> to <strong>106.4 GW<\/strong>, which represents an <strong>18% drop<\/strong> compared to <strong>pre-coronavirus<\/strong> levels.<\/p>\n<p>In a blog post toward the end of March, Abigail Ross-Hopper, the president and CEO of the U.S.-based <strong>Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA)<\/strong>, wrote that the solar industry was \u201cat risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing a survey carried out with the <strong>SEIA\u2019s member<\/strong> companies, <strong>Ross-Hopper<\/strong> said data showed that \u201csolar companies and workers are losing business and being put out of work by <strong>COVID-19<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year looks set to pose a number of challenges for the renewables sector, many of them connected to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused issues with supply chains and forced some factories to shut.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Danish wind turbine manufacturer\u00a0<strong>Vestas\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 a major player in the sector \u2014\u00a0<strong>suspended guidance for 2020<\/strong>, noting that the global spread of <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> and national measures taken to contain it had caused disruptions to installations, manufacturing and its supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>The situation changes daily and my colleagues\u2019<\/strong> ability to adapt fast and follow our extensive safety measures have been key to keeping performance in the <strong>first quarter<\/strong> in line with expectations,\u201d Henrik Andersen, Vestas\u2019 group president and CEO, said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, <strong>the pandemic continues to spread<\/strong> and with no clear prognosis on when key wind markets such as the <strong>USA, Brazil and India<\/strong> will recover, we are suspending our guidance due to the poor visibility for the remainder of the year.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 500 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant, described by Spanish utility\u00a0Iberdrola\u00a0as \u201cEurope\u2019s largest,\u201d sent its first megawatt hour of energy to the grid earlier this week, a welcome bright spot for an industry that in the months ahead could experience difficulties brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
