The virus has infected at least <strong>138,000<\/strong> people worldwide and killed more than <strong>5,000<\/strong>, disrupting business, markets and daily life. [MKTS\/GLOB]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major oil producers<\/strong> were pumping more crude into the market as demand collapses. <strong>Saudi Arabia<\/strong> has chartered more than <strong>30 crude<\/strong> supertankers to export oil in <strong>coming weeks<\/strong>, specifically targeting big refiners of <strong>Russian oil<\/strong> in <strong>Europe and Asia<\/strong>, in an escalation of its fight with <strong>Moscow<\/strong> for market share.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goldman Sachs<\/strong> said it now expected a record oil surplus of <strong>six million<\/strong> barrels per day (bpd) by <strong>April<\/strong>, in a global market that usually consumes about <strong>100 million bpd<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, prices were higher, rebounding after the United States and other nations signalled plans to support weakening economies. But <strong>Brent crude<\/strong> LCOc1 dropped <strong>25%<\/strong> on the week, the biggest weekly fall since the 2008 <strong>global financial crisis<\/strong>. On Friday, Brent rose<strong> 63 cents<\/strong> to settle at <strong>$33.85<\/strong> a barrel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI)<\/strong> crude CLc1 futures fell about <strong>23%<\/strong> on the week, their biggest percentage decline since<strong> 2008<\/strong>. WTI rose <strong>23 cents<\/strong> to settle at <strong>$31.73<\/strong> a barrel, after earlier gaining to <strong>$33.87<\/strong> a gallon.<\/p>\n<p>Hopes for a U.S. stimulus package that could ease an economic shock from the <strong>coronavirus provided<\/strong> some support to the oil and stock markets on <strong>Friday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s hope that all the stimulus will stabilize the economy and offset some of the concerns about weaker demand and keep parts of the economy strong enough to <strong>support oil prices<\/strong>,\u201d said <strong>Phil Flynn<\/strong>, analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saudi Arabia<\/strong>, the world\u2019s largest exporter, and the <strong>United Arab Emirates<\/strong> offered more oil to customers after <strong>OPEC<\/strong>\u2019s talks with <strong>Russia<\/strong> and others on supply <strong>restraint collapsed<\/strong> last week.<\/p>\n<p>Russia, the world\u2019s <strong>second-largest<\/strong> producer, has <strong>shown no interest<\/strong> in agreeing to further output curbs with the Organization of the <strong>Petroleum Exporting Countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Russian oil producers met <strong>Energy Minister<\/strong> <em>Alexander Novak<\/em> on Thursday but did not discuss a return to the deal.
