On 1 March WindEurope and the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the deployment of onshore and offshore wind energy in Azerbaijan and the wider Caspian Sea area. China’s installed wind and solar capacity will overtake coal for the first time this year, an industry body forecast on Tuesday.

The China Electricity Council (CEC) in a yearly report said grid-connected wind and solar would make up around 40% of installed power generation capacity by the end of 2024, compared with coal’s expected 37%.

By comparison, wind and solar together were around 36% of capacity at the end of 2023, and coal was just under 40%.

Locally generated wind power meant Northern Ireland saved £243m in 2023.

The figures are from Wind Energy Ireland’s annual report and a report by energy specialists Baringa.

They found that without wind energy, an additional £176m would have had to be spent on gas to generate power, with an additional almost £70m on carbon credits to burn it.

That reduced emissions by about 0.9m tonnes, equivalent to the amount of carbon produced by 200,000 homes.

Germany has set out its plan to claw back 90% of the earnings from some clean power generators as the government seeks funding for its consumer aid package.

The government is planning to skim earnings above €130 a megawatt-hour for solar, wind and nuclear, according to a draft law seen by Bloomberg News. Politicians are trying to reclaim some of the profits that companies like RWE AG are making from high power…

German wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON and Turkish renewables investor Enerjisa Üretim are teaming up to implement the YEKA RES 2 onshore wind energy project in Turkey.

The 1,000MW onshore wind energy project will see ENERCON supply and deliver a total of 240 E-138 EP3 E2 wind energy converters within the next four years.

Enerjisa Üretim, a joint venture between E.ON and Sabanci Holding, will act as investor and operator for the project.

German wind turbine maker Nordex (NDXG.DE) reported a 21% fall in 2022 first half sales on Sunday, citing lower demand for installations, and stuck to a forecast of a drop for the year as a whole.

Nordex said the war in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing energy and logistics disruptions had led to negative first-half earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 173.3 million euros, after a positive 68.4 million euro result in the same year-ago period.

Power plant developers and operators plan to install more than 6 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity at sites mostly along the U.S. eastern seaboard over the next seven years, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a report on Thursday.

The Biden administration is partnering with 11 East Coast states to accelerate development of offshore wind facilities and create jobs by supporting a domestic supply chain for the industry, the White House said on Thursday.
