<p>That’s one of the findings of a new report by the <strong>International Hydropower Association (IHA)</strong>, which estimates there is a gap of more than <strong>300 GW</strong> needed to <strong>limit global warming.</strong></p>
<p>Both the<strong> International Energy Agency</strong> and the<strong> International Renewable Energy Agency</strong> have previously said that around <strong>850 GW</strong> of new <strong>hydropower capacity</strong> will be required by <strong>2050</strong> to keep temperatures below <strong>2°C.</strong></p>

<p>Cengiz Holding Energy Group President Ahmet Cengiz stated that the power plant has the title of the first hybrid power plant in Turkey and the second largest in the world with the GES installed on the Aşağı Kaleköy HEPP site, while with the additional 80 mW GES power plant project consisting of 200 thousand solar panels.</p>

<p>While the Italian renewable energy group buys hydroelectric assets with an investment value of $1.19 billion, Enel also has a portfolio with a capacity of 527 megawatts (MW), which can produce an average of 1.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy annually.</p>
<p>After the acquisition, the HEPP capacity of Enel Group will reach an estimated 13 thousand MW, and some natural gas assets will be disposed of, thus focusing entirely on solar and wind energy for the future.</p>

<p>The results, outlined in an <strong><em>Electricity Journal</em> article</strong>, point to a nonlinear relationship between <strong>system costs</strong> and <strong>renewable energy</strong> contribution: Small deviations from the <strong>least-cost solution</strong> have minimal cost impacts, while larger deviations from the <strong>least-cost solution</strong> can result in large cost changes.</p>

Almost €35bn (51%) will go to renewables and €27bn (40%) to networks. Iberdrola intends to nearly double its renewable power capacity from 32 GW in 2019 to 60 GW in 2025, including 26 GW of onshore wind, 4 GW of offshore wind, 16 GW of solar, and 14 GW of hydro.</p>
<p>This renewable boost should reduce Iberdrola&#8217;s carbon factor by <strong>86%</strong> by <strong>2030</strong> to <strong>50gCO2/kWh;</strong> the group will offset emissions by planting trees to become carbon neutral by <strong>2030</strong>.</p>
