Meanwhile, those private sector companies that have joined the RE100 group, pledging to source 100% of their power from renewables, will need to buy an estimated 210 terawatt-hours of green electricity by 2030, on top of what they consume now, in order to be on track.</p>

<p>The data, released in the <strong>International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)</strong>’s annual <strong>Renewable Capacity Statistics 2020</strong>, showed that while the 2019 figure was slightly lower than 2018’s 179 GW the market continued to expand, up over <strong>7.5%</strong>. Asia showed the most spectacular growth, with <strong>54%</strong> of total additions while wind and solar power accounted by <strong>90%</strong> of capacity deployed.</p>

<p>Last year was the first time since 2001 that growth in renewable power capacity failed to increase year on year. New net capacity from solar PV, wind, hydro, bioenergy, and other renewable power sources increased by about 180 Gigawatts (GW) in 2018, the same as the previous year, according to the International Energy Agency’s latest data.</p>

The so-called PPE plan, which lays out capacity targets for various energy sectors over the 2019-2023 and 2024-28 periods, also confirmed that four to six nuclear reactors &#8211; including two in Fessenheim &#8211; will be closed by 2028, as announced late last year.</p>
<p>France aims to boost electrical renewable energy capacity &#8211; including hydropower &#8211; from 48.6 gigawatt (GW) end 2017 to 74 GW in 2023 and 113 GW in 2028, mainly by boosting wind and solar.</p>

The targets, up to 2030, will result in a 40% share of renewable energy capacity in the overall power generation in India.</p>
<p class="p1">A high-ranking official at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently stated that India will target an installed capacity of 500 gigawatts across all renewable energy technologies by 2030. The installed capacity target for the overall power sector is 850 gigawatts by the same year.</p>
