Continuing to invest in wind energy, one of the most effective and clean energy sources in the fight against climate change, TSKB contributes to Turkey’s carbon emission reduction with 38 Wind Power Plants it has financed to date. Drawing attention to renewable energy investments on World Wind Day, the bank plans to increase its support for clean energy investments.

The Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB), which finances investments based mainly on wind, geothermal, solar and biogas resources in the field of renewable energy, draws attention to the importance of clean energy on 15 June World Wind Day.

Development Investment Bank General Manager İbrahim Öztop said, “We see it as our responsibility to provide financial support to wind power plants, which play a major role in our country’s renewable energy power. As of the end of 2020, our bank provided 512 million dollars of financing support to WPP projects. We aim to continue our investments in the WPP field until the end of 2021, providing an additional 310 million dollars of financing, and allocating a total of 822 million dollars to this area only.

A transition towards a low-carbon economy is forecast to boost output and employment growth in the EU thanks to a spur in investment in clean energy, according to a new report released on Tuesday. An analysis run by Cambridge Econometrics and EU agency Eurofound’s European jobs monitor calculated that the EU28 GDP would be 1.1 per cent higher by 2030 in case of the Paris Climate agreement was implemented compared to the baseline scenario.

The number of jobs would be boosted by 0.5 per cent over the same period.

The transition to a lower carbon economy has been long promised but the reality remains elusive. There is no doubt that the costs of renewables — led by solar and onshore wind — are now materially cheaper than they ever have been, having fallen respectively to the point at which the International Energy Agency in its latest short term outlook sees prices falling to between $20 and $50 per megawatt hour.

That means they can compete with other fuels, even if some of the costs of providing back up to cover the intermittency of renewable supplies are included.
