Turkey, which ranks 7th in installed wind power in Europe, has increased its investments in wind energy 10 times in 10 years. While pointing out that more than 100 domestic and foreign investors contribute to the wind energy in our country, it is stated that the wind energy industry, which is native to 60-65%, plays a critical role in closing the country’s current account deficit and providing employment.

As the Biden Administration aims to significantly increase federal investment in renewable energy under the American Jobs Plan, the United States already ranks as the most attractive market for renewables investment, according to results from a new ranking by IHS Markit (NYSE: INFO), a world leader in critical information, analytics and solutions.

The IHS Markit Global Renewables Markets Attractiveness Rankings, which tracks attractiveness for investment for non-hydro renewables (offshore wind, onshore wind and solar PV), placed the United States in the number one spot for the period ending December 2020.

Spending on oil and gas has fallen much more than investment in renewables, according to International Energy Agency.

The world’s transition to cleaner sources of energy is gaining speed as the coronavirus pandemic accelerates a shift in investment away from fossil fuels, according to the International Energy Agency.

Capital spending on energy this year is set to plunge by 18%, as global energy demand is expected to fall by 5% in 2020, a pullback not seen since World War II, the Paris-based agency said in its annual report on the future of the industry.

Renewable energy 2030 targets already written into official policy by 87 governments around the world would mean the construction of an estimated 721 gigawatts of new capacity in wind, solar
and other non-hydro renewable power technologies over the next decade, according to analysis by BloombergNEF. New figures from BloombergNEF (BNEF) show that corporations bought a record amount of 13.4GW of clean energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) in 2018, well over double the previous record of 6.1GW set in 2017.

The research firm’s latest Corporate Energy Market Outlook, reveals that 121 companies in 21 different countries signed up to buy renewable energy last year. More than 60% of those purchases were in the US, where PPAs to buy 8.5GW of power were signed, almost three times 2017’s figure.

The transition to a lower carbon economy has been long promised but the reality remains elusive. There is no doubt that the costs of renewables — led by solar and onshore wind — are now materially cheaper than they ever have been, having fallen respectively to the point at which the International Energy Agency in its latest short term outlook sees prices falling to between $20 and $50 per megawatt hour.
