And every energy source has its drawbacks. It’s easy to point out the downsides of a given energy source and call for it to be banned. But if we’re not careful about weighing costs against benefits, we’re liable to end up with something even worse.</p>
<p>This is becoming painfully evident in the case of Japan. In 2011, a nuclear power plant in northeast Japan&#8217;s Fukushima prefecture was damaged by a huge tsunami and had multiple meltdowns.</p>

<p><strong>Mini nuclear stations</strong> can be mass manufactured and <strong>delivered in chunks</strong> on the back of a lorry, which makes costs more predictable. <strong>But opponents</strong> say the <strong>UK should quit</strong> nuclear power altogether.</p>

<p>That’s the name of TAE’s 100-foot-long prototype nuclear fusion reactor, a magnificent assemblage of stainless steel vessels, electromagnets and particle accelerator tubes. Once every eight minutes Norman emits a clang, as it transforms 100 million watts of electricity into a cloud of 30 million degree Celsius plasma that it blasts with beams of protons (the simplest form of hydrogen).</p>

It has broken 13 different renewable energy records, putting 2017 on track to be the greenest year ever for clean, electricity production. <p>These records are across the clean electricity sector. Highlights of 2017 included the greenest summer ever, as well the first full day since the Industrial Revolution where there was no coal power, record</p>
<p>breaking level of green power and the plummeting costs of off-shore wind.</p>

<p>Belgium is one of the five major producers and distributors of radioisotopes for medical purposes. Each year, almost seven million patients around the world benefit from a medical examination that makes use of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) produced in Belgium.</p>
<p>Currently, more than 25% of those isotopes for medical purposes are produced in SCK-CEN&#8217;s BR2 research reactor at Mol.</p>
