<p>Studies are continuing for the use of hydrogen in the storage of electricity in order to prevent base load imbalances that occur with the increasing share of clean energy in electricity production.</p>
<p>According to the scenarios, 58 terawatt-hours of electrical energy produced from renewable energy sources will be stored in hydrogen form until 2050.</p>

<p><strong>European industry</strong> and <strong>refineries</strong> already use around<strong> 8 million</strong> tonnes of <strong>hydrogen</strong> each year, but most of this is<strong> “grey” hydrogen</strong>, a version made from <strong>natural gas</strong> in a process that produces <strong>planet-warming emissions</strong>.</p>
