The value of Europe’s carbon price crossed the level of 90 euros per ton the other day, reaching an all-time high.

Carbon prices in Europe, which continued their upward movement in the last month, exceeded the level of 90 euro/ton in the last day’s transaction, seeing the highest value sale of all time.

The European Emissions Allowance (EUA) contract with a maturity date of December 2021 reached an all-time record of 90.75 euro/ton.

The sale of carbon permits through Germany’s national emissions system by the European Energy Exchange (EEX) will begin on 05 October 2021.

The revenue will be used to limit the taxes on the retail electricity sales price to support renewable energy and to compensate for the increased travel costs.

Spanish utility Iberdrola is heading a consortium aiming to develop a large-scale floating offshore wind turbine in the North Sea, as the sector looks to drive up the size of technology and push down costs.

In an announcement Monday, the firm said the turbine would be in excess of 10 megawatts (MW) and tested at the Marine Energy Test Centre in Norway. The average size of offshore turbines installed in 2019 was 7.8 MW, according to trade body WindEurope.

Both the world’s largest offshore wind farm and the world’s largest complex of wind farms will soon appear off the British coasts, showing an unprecedented value of renewable energies. Hornsea One by the Danish energy company Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy) and Dogger Bank’s three projects developed by the Scottish SSE will make Britain the biggest offshore wind market in the world.

The largest single offshore wind farm under construction is Hornsea One (1,218MW), while Dogger Bank is made of three projects (Dogger Bank Creyke Beck A, Dogger Bank Creyke Beck B and Teesside A—each with a capacity of 1,200MW).

Global energy-related carbon emissions rose to a record high last year as energy demand and coal use increased, mainly in Asia, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Tuesday.

Energy-related CO2 emissions rose by 1.7 percent to 33.1 billion tonnes from the previous year, the highest rate of growth since 2013, with the power sector accounting for almost two-thirds of this growth, according to IEA estimates.

The United States’ CO2 emissions grew by 3.1 percent in 2018, reversing a decline a year earlier, while China’s emissions rose by 2.5 percent and India’s by 4.5 percent.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called on the US not to interfere in Europe’s energy policies.

Belgium’s Nuclear Research Centre (SCK-CEN) and the Institut National des Radioéléments (IRE) are to collaborate on a project to recycle highly radioactive residues resulting from the production of radioisotopes for medical purposes.

Belgium is one of the five major producers and distributors of radioisotopes for medical purposes. Each year, almost seven million patients around the world benefit from a medical examination that makes use of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) produced in Belgium.

Currently, more than 25% of those isotopes for medical purposes are produced in SCK-CEN’s BR2 research reactor at Mol.

China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has suspended investment in Iran’s South Pars natural gas project in response to U.S. pressure and to minimize tensions amid trade talks between Beijing and Washington, three Chinese state oil executives said.

South Pars is the world’s largest gas field and CNPC’s investment freeze is a blow to Tehran’s efforts to maintain financing for energy projects amid the re-imposition U.S. sanctions on its energy sector earlier this year.
