These are the findings of a joint analysis released today in Ankara by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Investing in wind and solar power to satisfy future energy needs would thus yield not only environmental benefits but also strong economic ones, in terms of growth, job creation and the trade balance.</p>

<p>The cleanest, cheapest, most reliable source of energy is what countries can avoid using, while still providing full energy services for citizens. That is why the IEA refers to energy efficiency as the “first fuel”. Without early action on efficiency the energy transition to net zero emissions will be more expensive and much more difficult to achieve.</p>

<p>This joint analysis by <strong>Bellona, Ember, E3G</strong> and<strong> Regulatory Assistance Project</strong> finds that:</p>

<p>Cleaner oils, safer products</p>
<p>As a society, we are well informed today. This trend will only grow stronger, and the legislation reflecting it more draconian. Our naphthenic grades are not classified as carcinogenic, allowing them to replace, for example high aromatic oils in tyres. Another application on the horizon is using naphthenic oil as a plasticizer in PVC; the phtalates used today are environmentally unsuitable.</p>

<p>“My top <strong>recommendation, honestly</strong>, would be just add a <strong>carbon tax</strong>,” Musk told<strong> Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience</strong> podcast on Thursday. “The economy works great. <strong>Prices</strong> and <strong>money</strong> are just information. &#8230; If the <strong>price</strong> is wrong, the<strong> economy</strong> doesn’t do the right thing.”</p>
<p><strong>Currently</strong>, there is no direct monetary consequence for <strong>businesses</strong> and <strong>industries</strong> whose production releases <strong>greenhouse gasses</strong> into the <strong>atmosphere</strong>; in other words, it is <strong>free to create green house gasses</strong>, the most common and <strong>pervasive</strong> of which is <strong>carbon dioxide</strong>.</p>
