Stellantis (STLA.MI), the world’s No. 4 automaker, said on Thursday it plans to invest more than 30 billion euros ($35.54 billion) through 2025 on electrifying its vehicle lineup.

“This transformation period is a wonderful opportunity to reset the clock and start a new race,” Stellantis Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said on a webcast during the company’s “EV Day 2021” event. “The group is at full speed on its electrification journey.”

Stellantis said it is targeting more than 70% of sales in Europe and over 40% in the United States to be low-emission vehicles – either battery or hybrid electric – by 2030.

Volvo Trucks is now driven to roll out electrically-fueled heavy-duty trucks — the kind that makes short runs. It’s part of an effort by the state of California to help clean up air pollution and specifically in Los Angeles. Up first: about two dozen trucks with the accompanying charging stations.

Specifically, the California Air Resources Board is investing $45 million. The money will be used by Volvo Trucks and 14 others to advance electric transportation and to promote zero-emissions technologies.

Registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEV) in Europe doubled during the first months of 2020, while overall passenger cars fell by 25.6% compared to the same period last year. Data by the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO) shows that electric cars still only accounted for 4% of total.

The EAFO, which collects data for all vehicle types and for infrastructure when it comes to alternative fuels (electric, hydrogen, LPG, LNG, CNG, biofuels), noticed that these accounted for 5.4% of total in 2019 and the amount of BEV registrations alone rose by more than 100% in the first quarter of 2020.

Energy storage is set to take an increasingly central role in the global economy, growing almost tenfold over the next decade and a half, new research suggests.

The total energy storage market is expected to grow to $546 billion in annual revenue by 2035, up from just $59 billion in 2019, according to a report released by Lux Research.
