100 MW Renewable Energy Storage System from Shell and Edify Energy

Shell and Edify Energy will install a system with 100 MW of storage in the State of New South Wales, Australia, where wind and solar energy will be stored.

Dutch Royal Dutch Shell and Australian renewable energy company Edify Energy have signed a 10-year energy supply contract with the Australian State of New South Wales. The contract envisages installing a 100MW energy storage system called the Riverina Energy Storage System (RESS) near Edify Energy’s 333MW Darlington Point solar power plant in Riverina. In addition, Shell Energy signed a long-term service agreement to access the operating rights of the 60 MW portion of the energy storage system.

The $2.5 billion contract includes the installation and operation of a 100 MW system to store energy for wind and solar energy by Shell and its partner Edify Energy. According to the information provided by Edify Energy, the storage system to be established will be commissioned at the beginning of 2023 and will help to close the energy gap caused by the closure of the coal-fired power plant belonging to AGL Energy in the same year.
