Germany Warns US: “Don’t Confuse Europe’s Energy Policies”

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called on the US not to interfere in Europe’s energy policies.

Speaking at the traditional New Year reception, Maas said, ’Europe’s energy problems should be resolved in Europe, not in the United States. Geleneksel Noting that North Stream-2 is a full German-Russian joint project and that it is important for all of Europe, the minister also expressed that the Central and Eastern European partners take seriously the doubts about this project.

Maas warned his US counterpart, Mike Pompeo, that unilateral sanctions against North Stream-2 are not the right way. ’Sanctions are not a goal but a political instrument. It has meaning when connected to clear and fulfilled demands. Unfortunately, the US has nothing to do with sanctions against Russia, Ma he said.
